T.B Jain School
T.B. Jain Kanyashala was established by Sheth Tribhuvandas Bhanji, which is why it is named after him.
Significant History:
T.B. Jain Kanya Shala was founded in 1897 by Sheth Tribhuvandas Bhanji with the aim of promoting female education. The school is located in the heart of the city, making it easily accessible for girls to pursue their educational goals.
Architecture and Design:
The majority of the construction was done using Rajula and Porbandar stones, as well as limestone. The building's architecture is European in style, featuring beautiful archways, balconies, and pillars.
A key element of the monument is the Atlas, the Greek deity who is believed to be the protector of the earth according to Greek mythology. Atlas symbolizes the strength of the structure, bearing the full weight of the building and preventing its collapse.
At the top of the monument, the Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom, and learning, is represented. The monument also features intricate China mosaic work, a challenging and time-consuming art form that requires a high level of skill. This mosaic is durable, tough, and resilient to damage.
Additionally, the design of a British Crown is included in the architecture to reflect the strong connection between Bhavnagar State and British engineers, as many of the state's engineers during that time were British.
Overall, the monument beautifully combines various traditional cultures in its design.
Current Status:
The school remains operational today and provides free education for girls. It offers classes from 9th to 12th grade in the Gujarati medium and sometimes provides books and bicycles to students.
